LAURA J. SCHABEN, M.D.

Dr. Laura Schaben comes to Bend Neurological Associates from the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Center of Oregon at Oregon Health & Science University where she served as instructor and post doctorate fellow in MS research and specialty care. Dr. Schaben is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Consortium of MS Centers and has been awarded a Sylvia Lawry Physician Fellowship from the National MS Society.
A Nebraska native, Dr. Schaben returned to her home state for medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center after obtaining her bachelors degree in biology at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. Her family enjoyed four years in St. Louis while she completed her medical internship and neurology residency training at St. Louis University Hospital. Motivated by her experiences with patients and by the rapidly evolving pace of MS research, Dr. Schaben sought out the opportunity to further hone her MS clinical expertise and to participate in research and education efforts through an academic fellowship position. Because of the exceptional opportunities at OHSU, Dr. Schaben and her family made their move to Oregon in 2004. Upon completion of her fellowship, Dr. Schaben sought a position that would allow her to provide both general neurology and MS subspecialty patient care, maintain a research connection to OHSU and keep her family close to the mountains, which they had come to enjoy so much. She found a perfect fit in Bend.
Dr Schaben moved to Bend in 2006 with her husband and two young sons. She evaluates and treats disorders of the nervous system with an 'evidence based medicine' approach, using the best available medical evidence, plus an understanding of each patient's unique biology, values, and circumstances to help patients make sound decisions about their health care.
